Update: Thammasat University has discussed an academic collaboration with representatives from educational institutions from Saskatchewan, Canada.

     On 26 February 2026, Professor Dr. Supasawad Chardchawarn, Rector of Thammasat University, welcomed Louise Michaud, Deputy Minister of Advanced Education (AE) of the government of Saskatchewan, Canada, during her official visit to Thammasat and Thailand.

The Deputy Minister was accompanied by the Executive Director of International Education of AE and a delegation from the University of Saskatchewan (USask), Saskatchewan Polytechnic (Sask Polytech), and the Embassy of Canada to Thailand. The welcoming meeting was also attended by Thammasat University’s Vice Rector for Research and Innovation, the Assistant to the Rector for International Affairs, and executives from the Chulabhorn International College of Medicine (CICM), Thammasat School of Engineering, and Thammasat Design School.

Key discussion points

     The meeting focused on advancing academic collaboration, strengthening research partnerships, and developing practical skills to align with the needs of the industrial workforce.

     Thammasat University Rector and executives underscored the importance of expanding academic collaboration through the Bachelor–Master Dual Degree model and advancing joint research initiatives in Carbon Neutrality and Net Zero, supported by a Matching Fund mechanism. Thammasat also underlined its commitment to enhancing “experiential learning” through internships, aligning with the Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) flagship program of Saskatchewan Polytechnic.

     At the faculty level, representatives from the College of Medicine (CICM) expressed interest in pursuing short-term programs with scholarship opportunities. Meanwhile, the Faculty of Engineering emphasized expanding collaboration in Dual Degree development, industry-based internships, and Carbon Net Zero research, as well as supporting integrated international study-and-work opportunities.

     The University of Saskatchewan proposed collaboration in blended learning, particularly in the fields of environment and sustainability. They also emphasized the One Health approach, which recognizes the interconnection between human health, animal health, and the environment. In addition, the university expressed interest in expanding cooperation in Public Policy and Quantum Technology, as well as developing a co-supervision model at the graduate level.

     Meanwhile, Saskatchewan Polytechnic highlighted its strength in applied research aimed at accelerating technology adoption in the industrial sector. The institution also emphasized enhancing applied learning and Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) by integrating internship programs into the curriculum.

Future Collaboration Plans

     To deepen academic ties, Thammasat and Saskatchewan institutions identified several mutual areas of interest, including:

   1. Developing Bachelor–Master Dual Degree Programs

   2. Advancing joint research in Carbon Neutrality and Net Zero initiatives

   3. Expanding collaboration in Work-Integrated Learning and internship programs

   4. Promoting applied research to serve industry demands

     ศ. ดร.ศุภสวัสดิ์ ชัชวาลย์ อธิการบดีมหาวิทยาลัยธรรมศาสตร์ ให้การต้อนรับ Louise Michaud รองรัฐมนตรีกระทรวงการอุดมศึกษาแห่งรัฐบาลรัฐซัสแคตเชวัน ประเทศแคนาดา ในโอกาสเยือนมหาวิทยาลัยธรรมศาสตร์และประเทศไทยอย่างเป็นทางการ เมื่อวันที่ 26 กุมภาพันธ์ 2569 ที่ผ่านมา

     โดยมีผู้เข้าร่วมฯ ได้แก่ ผู้อำนวยการด้านการศึกษานานาชาติของกระทรวงการอุดมศึกษาแห่งรัฐบาลรัฐซัสแคตเชวัน ประเทศแคนาดา คณะผู้แทนจากมหาวิทยาลัยซัสแคตเชวัน (USask) สถาบัน Saskatchewan Polytechnic (Sask Polytech) ผู้แทนสถานเอกอัครราชทูตแคนาดาประจำประเทศไทย และจากมหาวิทยาลัยธรรมศาสตร์ ได้แก่ รศ. ดร.ม.ล.พินิตพันธุ์ บริพัตร รองอธิการบดีฝ่ายวิจัยและนวัตกรรม พร้อมด้วย อาจารย์ ดร.อุษณีษ์ ปฐพีศรีกิจส เลิศรัตนานนท์ ผู้ช่วยอธิการบดีฝ่ายวิเทศสัมพันธ์ และผู้บริหารจากวิทยาลัยแพทยศาสตร์นานาชาติจุฬาภรณ์ (CICM) คณะวิศวกรรมศาสตร์ และคณะสถาปัตยกรรมศาสตร์และการผังเมือง

     การหารือในครั้งนี้ มุ่งเน้นการยกระดับความร่วมมือทางวิชาการ เสริมสร้างเครือข่ายวิจัยร่วมกัน และพัฒนาทักษะเชิงปฏิบัติการให้สอดคล้องกับความต้องการของภาคอุตสาหกรรม

     ซึ่งมหาวิทยาลัยธรรมศาสตร์ เน้นย้ำถึงการขยายความร่วมมือทางวิชาการผ่านหลักสูตรปริญญาตรี–โทควบ (Bachelor–Master Dual Degree) ควบคู่กับการผลักดันงานวิจัยร่วมกัน โดยเฉพาะด้าน Carbon Neutrality และ Net Zero โดยมีการสนับสนุนผ่านกลไกกองทุนสมทบ (Matching Fund) พร้อมทั้งให้ความสำคัญกับการพัฒนาการเรียนรู้จากประสบการณ์จริง (Experiential Learning) ผ่านโครงการฝึกงาน ซึ่งจะสอดคล้องกับโครงการ Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) ของสถาบัน Saskatchewan Polytechnic

     University of Saskatchewan เสนอการทำความร่วมมือด้านการเรียนการสอนแบบผสมผสาน (Blended Learning) โดยเฉพาะในสาขาสิ่งแวดล้อมและความยั่งยืน พร้อมทั้งเน้นย้ำแนวคิด One Health ซึ่งตระหนักถึงความเชื่อมโยงระหว่างสุขภาพของมนุษย์ สัตว์ และสิ่งแวดล้อม นอกจากนี้ ยังแสดงความสนใจในการขยายความร่วมมือในสาขานโยบายสาธารณะและเทคโนโลยีควอนตัม ตลอดจนการพัฒนาโครงการอาจารย์ที่ปรึกษาร่วมสำหรับนักศึกษาระดับบัณฑิตศึกษา

     ขณะเดียวกัน Saskatchewan Polytechnic ให้ความสำคัญกับจุดเด่นด้านการวิจัยเชิงประยุกต์ที่กระตุ้นการนำเทคโนโลยีไปใช้ในภาคอุตสาหกรรม พร้อมส่งเสริมการเรียนรู้เชิงปฏิบัติการและโครงการ Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) ผ่านการบูรณาการโครงการฝึกงานเข้าไว้ในหลักสูตร

     โดยกำหนดแผนการยกระดับความร่วมมือทางวิชาการในอนาคต ระหว่างมหาวิทยาลัยธรรมศาสตร์ และสถาบันในรัฐซัสแคตเชวัน ดังนี้

   1. พัฒนาหลักสูตรปริญญาตรี–โทควบ (Bachelor–Master Dual Degree)

   2. สนับสนุนงานวิจัยร่วม ด้าน Carbon Neutrality และ Net Zero

   3. ขยายความร่วมมือด้าน Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) และโครงการฝึกงาน

   4. ส่งเสริมงานวิจัยเชิงประยุกต์เพื่อตอบโจทย์ความต้องการของภาคอุตสาหกรรม
