The Dharma Wheel Emblem, the symbol of Thammasat University, consists of two main components. The Dharma Wheel signifies that this institution adheres to the principles of Buddhism. At the center of the Dharma Wheel is the Constitution Throne, representing the university’s commitment to uphold and honor the Constitution as its guiding principle.

The design and construction of the Thammasat Dome Building involved renovating four existing two-story buildings with Western architectural style. These buildings, of the same size and shape, were aligned in a long row facing the Chao Phraya River and were originally built during the reign of King Rama VI. The renovation included connecting these four buildings with a roof, creating a single structure.

In the center of this structure, a new three-story building was constructed, topped with an octagonal “dome” as its symbol. It is said that the architect (Mew Apaiwong) was inspired by an “octagonal pencil” sharpened to a fine point, representing educational wisdom. This dome symbol has also been replicated in the emblematic buildings of Thammasat University’s Rangsit, Lampang, and Pattaya campuses.

Yellow and red are the official colors of Thammasat University, as reflected in the lyrics of the song “Mon Doo Dao,” which state: “Yellow represents our commitment to virtue; red signifies the blood sacrificed for it.” These colors symbolize a dedication to moral principles and a willingness to sacrifice for the greater good of society.

King Bhumibol Adulyadej (King Rama IX) visited Thammasat University’s Auditorium at the Thaprachan campus and graciously planted a Peacock Tree in front of the auditorium. This act was to establish the Peacock Tree as the university’s symbolic tree. The vibrant colors of the Peacock Tree’s flowers—yellow and red—match the university’s official colors, reinforcing the connection between the tree and Thammasat University’s identity.

King Bhumibol Adulyadej graciously provided the melody for “The Golden Peacock,” one of his royal compositions, and instructed Mr. Jamnong Rajakit to complete the lyrics. This song was designated as the official anthem of Thammasat University. The lyrics and melody of the song are meant to embody the values and identity of the university, aligning with the symbolism of the peacock tree and its vibrant colors.
