Thammasat hosted Thai Peace Day 2023 at the Tha Prachan campus’ Memorial Garden.

     16 August 2023 – Thammasat hosted Thai Peace Day 2023 to commemorate the 78th anniversary of the Free Thai Movement at the Tha Prachan campus’ Memorial Garden: Thammasat and the Fight for Democracy. On the occasion, Professor Dr. Surapon Nitikraipot, President of the University Council, delivered an opening speech. The participants included ambassadors and representatives from twelve embassies, Thammasat executives and members, and distinguished guests. The solemn event comprised flower tributes laid at the Free Thai Sculpture to commemorate the courage of the Free Thai Movement and those who sacrificed their lives during World War II. The keynote speech, “Peace Amidst Geopolitical Tensions”, was delivered by Ms. Cynthia Veliko, Regional Representative of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).

     Following the ceremony, an academic forum on “The ASEAN Community's Role in Strengthening Peace in Myanmar” was held at Sriburapha Auditorium, featuring keynotes and discussions by experts in refugee and immigrants’ rights.
