Thammasat Design School, in collaboration with SCG, to drive Thai society towards Net Zero

Thammasat Design School organized an event on exchanging knowledge about sustainable environmental design titled "Climate Resilience - Addressing Climate Change".

     The Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning, Thammasat University, in collaboration with SCG Cement-Construction Products Limited, organized a special lecture and exchange of perspectives on the topic of "Climate Resilience - Addressing Climate Change" to provide a space for cascading knowledge on sustainable environmental design and development to drive Thailand towards the goals of Carbon Neutrality and Net Zero Emission. The event took place at The Mitr-ting Room, Samyan Mitrtown.

     Asst. Asan Suwanarit, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning, Thammasat University, stated that sustainability is not a new concept. The foundation of this idea lies underneath humans and nature, by linking the dimensions of the environment, society, and economy together. The concept is defined and interpreted in various ways. Over the past years, there are various tools for sustainability through the establishment of definitions, indicators, and targets, as well as through both promotional and regulatory measures, which have been gradually introduced in many countries, including the developed.

     Currently, Thammasat University organizes teaching and learning subjects related to sustainable development. The university has introduced General Education courses on this topic for the past 10 years. For over 15 years, the Faculty of Architecture and Planning at Thammasat University has been developing and implementing sustainable design and planning courses for students in professional programs. These courses aim to provide new knowledge on sustainability to practitioners in various organizations and industries.

     Asst. Prof. Kallaya Tantiyaswasdikul, Deputy Dean for Academic Services of the Faculty of Architecture and Planning, Thammasat University, has introduced the Scenario Planning for Sustainability Leadership course. This Executive Program was developed through collaboration between the faculty and SCG. It is a program designed for executives who prioritize strategic future forecasting in the dimension of sustainability amidst the global challenges faced by the environment, society, and complex economy. The role of managers is crucial in reshaping organizational perspectives and driving them towards new opportunities amidst these new challenges.

     The role of managers concerns an ability to apply these principles in decision-making processes that benefit both the business and society as a whole and being environmentally responsible. It is to drive sustainable and inclusive growth within the organization and ensure its contribution. Therefore, Sustainability Leadership is a crucial skill for managers to drive organizations by prioritizing the process of transitioning towards sustainability. Managers with the potential for Sustainability Leadership can develop management strategies to provide solutions and address future challenges, create changes in the context of environmental, social, and economic sustainability, and consider the long-term impacts of organizational decisions.
