Thammasat’s the only university in Thailand to be authorized as a signatory of UN Women's WEPs.

LSEd TU has been authorized as a signatory of UN Women's WEPs to stand its ground besides the UN in ending gender inequality in the workplace and community.

     Prof. Dr. Sahawach Polharn, Associate Dean for Administration and Network Relations, Faculty of Learning Sciences and Education, Thammasat University revealed that Thammasat University was authorized by the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women) on February 3, 2023 to appoint the Dean of the Faculty of Learning Sciences and Education as a signatory of the CEO Statement of Support to promote together with the United Nations in ending gender inequality in the workplace and community, and as well apply the seven Women's Empowerment Principles (WEPs) to the management of the institution.

     The authorization to appoint the Faculty of Learning Sciences and Education, Thammasat University as a signatory of the UN Women's WEPs marked it the first institution of higher education in Thailand to be a signatory. It is also regarded as an official announcement to the world that this educational institution supports gender equality in the workplace and that personnel selection is conducted without discrimination.

     Asst.Prof.Dr.Adisorn Chantrasuk, Dean of the Faculty of Learning Sciences and Education, Thammasat University said that the Faculty of Learning Sciences and Education as well as the Thammasat Secondary School which is an institution within the faculty have a clear policy and focus on gender equality because equality is fundamental to human beings. The implementation is achieved through collaboration among teachers, personnel, and students in the context of teaching, research and social service to foster competent education and citizens with equality in mind.

     Asst.Prof.Dr.Adisorn further mentioned that the Faculty of Learning Sciences and Education has a clear intention to address structural inequality which is not limited to only within the university but determined to make the society in particular, educational institutions to be aware of these issues. This is similar to the management of Thammasat University which is an example of a higher education institution that drives this issue vividly to create a society of gender equality all along.

     “The focus on the universal principle of empowering women in playing equal roles to men will help us notice the good that is happening to society as a whole. Reducing gender inequality in the workplace and promoting the potential of workers of all genders will help the organization grow sustainably, increase the chances of developing the country and eventually resulting in a more equitable and resilient economic system,” said Asst.Prof.Dr.Adisorn.
